“James is every striving band’s dream. He was so determined to give us the best shot that we could have ever wanted, and he never fell short of getting us the best sound he could possibly get. He brought fresh ears, new ideas, experience and talent to the table and working with James has been an unforgettable experience for all of us. His exceptional mixing skills have inspired us to return with fresh ideas, and we all look forward to working with James once again.”

Here is what I brought away… Regardless of the tools or limitations of the PA is it always possible to think outside the box and achieve something great if you don’t give up or give into the situation. Whether its 2 faders, less than 5db headroom before clipping, and 2 hours of fader riding OR 192 faders of glorious digital console love, limitless plugin power, and headroom out the arse on a D&B rig ever fader under my control will ALWAYS get the same amount of love and attention until it sounds its absolute best… as far as I’m concerned… ‘good doesn’t cut it!’

“…to make their music what it needs to be in order to find success in this industry right now… demos aren’t cutting it anymore, you need to have a great sounding radio ready record.”

“Working with James ‘the brave’ Hurley is always an experience! I’m impressed with both his ability to get the job done efficiently and to deliver exactly the sounds I’m looking for.
I’ve worked with James on several projects now (6) and not only do we have a lot of fun but his ear for sonic quality (great mixes, warm guitar tones, phat drum sounds, vibrant vocals), arrangement edits and programming ideas is excellent! Work with ‘Abravemix’ if you dare exceed your expectations.”

“Working with James on this EP was a perfect combination! Quick turn around times, exceptional quality and creative in the way he mixed it.
Brilliant ears and exceptional technical skill and knowledge to back it up. Looking forward to sending him our next record and letting him work his magic!” – Adventure Land

Artist Highlights:
Adventure Land released two singles in 2010, ‘The Eastern Sky’ and ‘Hold My Hand’ which are played nationally across Australia on hundreds of stations. Both singles have reached the top 10 on Australia’s Hot 25 Countdown, which alone is featured on over 500 stations in Australia and the USA (List of Hot 25 Stations – http://www.hot25.com.au/hot25countdown/?pid=8506 Vision Network has over 470 relay stations).

In the first week of its release, ‘The Eastern Sky’ was the 22nd most played song on Australian Christian Radio according to The Rock Across Australia.

The music video for ‘Hold My Hand’ featured on national TV through the music video show RAGE, and has seen over 17,300 views on YouTube since September 2010.

‘Hold My Hand’ was also picked up by RADAR Radio, an online and digital radio station created by Austereo. As a result, the single has been played nationally on the Austereo Network as part of the RADAR New Hits Show and the RADAR Radio New Rock show (all capital city Triple M stations, 2Day FM in Sydney, B105 in Brisbane, etc.)

Additionally, ‘Hold My Hand’ has been featured on the NOVA website nationally as a feature artist as part of the lead up to their ‘I Am With The Band’ competition.

From the artist:

“The Calling of Levi recently had two tracks mixed with James Hurley of A Brave Mix. After hearing the final products of some of James’ other work, we were confident that he would be able to work with us and to bring our songs to life with a solid and professional mix. James definitely did not disappoint.

Our tracks were recorded at a studio in Perth, Western Australia and having James mix them meant sending them to the USA. As artists we had a specific vision for each track and in sections of the songs were chasing a particular sound. James’ understanding of sound and his ability to capture our vision was imperative and we were very impressed with the outcome of the final mix.

His communication between artist and engineer is brilliant. He has the ability to mix and to provide a quality and professional sound; that of which we’re very happy with.”

Callum Burne
The Calling of Levi

Career Highlights:

- Switchfoot support in Singapore 2011
- Supporting Relient K
- Sharing the stage with artists such as Superchick, KJ-52 and Rapture Ruckus.
- Parachute Music Festival 2011
- Easterfest 2011

So March seemed to speed past like a blur! I had a couple wicked jobs over the course of March and some other releases happening I had previously worked on.

First> Jesiah, a long time friend and front man of “Intertransit” approached me to mix a radio release of a song called “The Air” for a radio contest and although they came in second there was heaps of great response to the song. Props to my good friend Phil Blackbourn for mastering it over night for us.

Next> The 2nd Foursqure Puyallup “United Generation” live album “All Things” (I tracked and edited, mixed by Jim Monk and Andrew Crawford at 11th Hour Studios in Sydney AU) release at their annual UG Conference and on iTunes. It charted up to #13 at last check on the Contemporary Christian/Gospel charts on iTunes. Not too bad if I do say so myself! Well done boys and girls!

Third> I had the privileged of being asked to mix two new tracks for The Calling of Levi, a pop rock band from Peth AU. The songs were fresh and the guys were a pleasure to work with. I was very happy with the results and had the honour to hand deliver them to Sterling Sound to be mastered by legendary mastering engineer George Marino (Arcade Fire, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, The Strokes, Michael Buble, and on and on). I look forward to hopefully getting to mix more for them in the future. In the future I will put up some copies for listen only with links to purchase on iTunes when they are officially released.

Forth> I am scheduled to mix a new, full, studio version of a track off the United Generation “All Things” album for a separate compilation this week! I am really pumped!!

Lastly> I will be posting some new promotions for April so watch this space… and twitter!
